We've just devoted an episode of Elder Sign: A Weird Fiction Podcast to a discussion of Robert E. Howard's classic (Cthulhu) Mythos story "The Black Stone." We spend a lot of our discussion on history, attempting to reconstruct the alternate history of this imaginary setting, looking at how Howard depicts historians at work, and then situating Howard's text in it's own historical context. We do also eventually get around to talking about some of the Mythos connections to Lovecraft and Smith, and we speculate about the hypothetical sequel. This is one of my favorite weird-fiction stories and we had so much fun doing this that I hope some of you will find the conversation interesting and want to talk with us further about this genuine masterpiece. Thanks for checking us out and thanks for talking with us.
