Alles anzeigenIt's silly, but I just today realized (showerthoughts) that I've had a Cthulhu filk stored in my brain--and only in my brain--for more than two decades. I consider Cthulhu-cultism pretty mainstream now, but I was once pretty into following our obscure died-but-will-return Lord and Savior of the Reformed-ish Church of the Undersea Christ at 47° 9′ S 126° 43′ W etc. etc. I would browse and hang out in alt.horror.Cthulhu, Campus Crusade for Cthulhu forums, and so on, and I was reading Lovecraft's collected letters and all that, so when a filk thread started (someone began it with a "Downeaster Alexa" filk about sincere worship of Cthulhu that was popular then; seems lost now) and I wrote this "Battle Hymn" and have apparently never forgotten it even though it's long since purged from writing in any form whatsoever:
Well, you've been warned (and yes, to respond to someone from way back then, it scans just fine; I sing it sometimes):
Battle Hymn of the Cthulhu Crusade:
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the rising of R'lyeh
where great Cthulhu and the Old Ones lie dead dreaming of the day
when we shall go to meet them with the stars in neat array
Ia! Cthulhu F'tagn![Chorus]:
Glory, Glory Cthulhu Rising!
Glory, Glory Cthulhu Rising!
Glory, Glory Cthulhu Rising!
Cthulhu is calling me!Now he's sounded forth his calling; we must never call retreat
submitted by /u/FnordPrefect2020
for he's sifting through the parts of men before his rugose feet
Be swift my soul to follow him lest I become his meat
Ia! Cthulhu F'tagn!
